Big Tent Republicans
I always had the impression that the Log Cabin Republicans (a gay Republican group) would probably be like a few of the gay conservatives and libertarians that I know: sensible enough to know that if you want to be taken seriously, you behave seriously. Maybe not. Americans for Truth About Homosexuality has this video of a recent Chicago gay pride parade in which the Log Cabin Republicans' float was in the mainstream of gay pride parades--which is to say, vulgar and repulsive.
Warning: vulgar language and blurred out nudity--but then again, it is in the middle of a public street, and involves elementary school children, so what can you expect?
I'm a firm believer that the Republican Party needs to be a bit larger than just social conservatives. But I'm not sure that the Log Cabin Republicans add anything to our party that we really need.
