The Porkulus Bill: Chicago Style

The Porkulus Bill: Chicago Style

There's something positively charming about the honesty with which Chicago politicians do dishonest things. From the February 4, 2009 Chicago Tribune:

Mayor Richard Daley said today Chicago has compiled a wish list of "shovel-ready projects" to spend federal economic stimulus funds on should Congress approve a plan.

Unlike hundreds of other cities, however, Daley said Chicago won't make its list public.

"Yes, we do, we have our list, we've been talking to people. We did not put that out publicly because once you start putting it out publicly, you know, the newspapers, the media is going to be ripping it apart," Daley said.

And once that starts, the cattle might have a different opinion of what should be done. As one of the commenters over there pointed out:
What business is it of the people to know where city money is spent? They should just shut up and let their betters take care of them. Who knows better what to do with the peoples money? The people or da mayor? Of course, da mayor. I thought you would see it my way. Now go away and let da mayor dole out the cash to his cronies.
