An Experiment With Commenting
Let's be polite and see if everyone can behave themselves. I don't want to spend a lot of time (any time, actually) moderating comments.
I also fixed the permalinks that were broken after migrating away from FTP-based blogging.
Yes, I can add comments.

Good luck with comments, Clayton. With rare exceptions, most comment threads remind me of good old Usenet: some useful discussion, low signal/noise, rapid degeneration into snark and insult. Been there, done that, and I know you have too.

ReplyDeleteI think the idea of closing comments after a week is generally good. On the rare occasions that a comment thread is still being usefull that long you can override but everyone I see that does the time out does it to help keep the spam under control.
Here's my advice -- close the comment thread when someone first brings up Hitler. It's always downhill after that.

You need to update the link you have on the left hand side of the blog page to "http://www.thearmedcitizen.com/".
It appears that "gundefense.net" now is in the hands of a domain squatter.
I don't know how well blogger.com filters out spam comments, but since they're run by Google, I'm guessing they do a decent job. (My Gmail account gets hundreds of spam emails a day, but I rarely see any of them in my inbox). But yeah, closing comments after a certain amount of time is probably a good idea.
