K&N Filters
I've seen K&N Filters advertise for many years the claim that they can improve the fuel economy and horsepower of automobiles by just replacing the standard disposable air filter with one of their cleanable filters that are supposed to last for a million miles. I must confess that if I had an easy way to get another 5-10 horsepower out of the Jaguar, it would be very nice.
So while digging around, I found a discussion on the Roadfly Jaguar X-type forum that points to this ISO 5011 air filter test. It would appear that any advantage that the K&N filter provides is because it isn't a terribly effective air filter--and the claimed 1-3 horsepower advantage on the Jaguar doesn't seem worth the increased need for oil changes.
I'm curious: has anyone seen any persuasive evidence that any aftermarket air filter actually provides a real horsepower gain?
