Need GM Mechanic Recommendation in Portland Area

My son's Pontiac has an electrical problem--probably the turn signal stalk shorting out some of the exterior lights.  The Pontiac dealer can do it, I know, but the dealers up there are extremely expensive.  If you can recommend an honest independent car mechanic in the Portland area, please let me know by email or in the comments.

  1. I had the same issue in my 96 subaru. The lights would randomly short out, and I would have to hold the selector forward to keep the lights on. I purchased a used switch from a salvage yard, but it started doing the same thing two weeks later. My fix was I installed two toggle switches and connected them to the incoming wire for the parking lights and headlights respectively. Seeing as the lights are a negative/grounding system (on my subaru anyway), when I flicked the switch, the lights relay was grounded and the lights would turn on.

  2. Thanks. It looks like the Pontiac dealer is going to get some business.

  3. The public radio car talk guys have a "Mechanics Files", which is a user contributed database of auto mechanics recommendations. See www.cartalk.com.
